3. Sunday jaunting

 lift = elevator
We stayed near Hyde Park, in a very quiet, wealthy neighborhood.  Interesting to see 2 story residences (with postcard size garden yards) built behind the taller buildings.
As seen on this mailbox, the present Queen's cypher is EIIR, standing for Elizabeth II Regina.
Regina = the reigning queen.
 jaunts are journeys for pleasure.  Sunday, we had bright sunshine (hence my squinty eyes) at the Prince Albert memorial.  I loved the wide paths through Hyde Park with so many others out enjoying the day.  Even more than the buildings and palaces, i loved walking in the many gardens on our trip.

 "Diana, Princess of Wales, lived at Kensington Palace for fifteen years.  She admired the changing floral displayls in the garden and would often stop to talk with the gardeners.  This year the garden team have created a White Garden to mark twenty years since her tragic death."

In Kensington Gardens, we saw the Elfin Oak, "a 900 year old tree trunk, that was carved with tiny elves, fairies, and other fanciful creations in the 1920s."
a 1912 bronze statue Peter Pan, of the boy who lived on an island in the park and never grew up.
the formal Italian Gardens since1860.

Speakers Corner, where passionate people come to speak, debate, and discuss.  LDS missionaries have preached here.  Perhaps Grandpa planned really well, or it was fortuitous, but great to walk through here on a Sunday when the crowds gather, so we could see the action.
